Just searched everywhere through the net and it said ok ...for us. Don't know about the bird side of things. Evidently very high in Vitamin C both flowers and leaves . It does need a high moisture level to sustain itself, perhaps around your pond? Moist soil does cause some concerns though. On the other side, I would think the taste to them would be the dead giveaway and leave it alone, hopefully.
If you are game try it in a small area with some control birds and observe....do not use your besties!
