Mesh cube with a door that can be dropped from a distance. Stick and string; at least until I can find a suitable central locking system to re-purpose. Here's a picture.

I was not being flippant when I said water. It is the primary driving dietary force in all Painteds' diet.

Do you find your Painteds nesting close to the water dish? mine always seem to nest right next to it or within a meter of it....

I probably don't have nest sites near the water dish but i have consistently noticed they are among the first to water when it is changed each day. Withholding other water supply (or covering it up) & providing a water dish in a trap would be the ideal way to trap Painteds (and others). When doing this with any bait it is best to provide the bait in the trap ad lib regularly and when you notice the birds regularly taking it, that is the time that trapping will be effective when alternate supplies are temporarily ceased.
