Can anybody advise on the best place to get mealworms from in the Canberra area. I have found the pet shop at Tuggeranong has them sometimes but not consistantly.

John Milton
Breeds Mealworms here in Howlong and posts them all around the country.
His price is $45 per KG plus postage which is around $5 (I think)
I would presume that 1 kg would be around 7000 worms but who wants to count.
He sends early in the week and post normally takes 3 days.
If you want his phone number just let me know

I would just like a little feed back from everyone as to how much/many mealworms should be served up to the birds in one go? I have in the past given them some every second day totalling say 12 worms and when they are gone they have to wait until the next feeding. I have heard of people placing a container full in the aviary and letting the birds regulate when they wish to eat.

Thoughts?

One of the small round tubs would last me about 4 or 5 days if I fed it every day. At $8 a tub I certainly dont feed them every day, and I dont fancy breeding them.
I usually feed about a tablespoon per aviary every couple of days.

i feed a teaspoon full a day.but more when babies are present . well about that anyway. the amount on the teaspoon can vary because of the size of the mealies. on here there is a topic on feeders where you place a large amount of mealies in a container and they fall out when they are ready it sort of stops all the mealies being eaten in one sitting..pete
