leg bands on my finch

hey all

i was just wondering why my male finch has a lg band and what is it for??

the band on his leg is black

any help please

That would be so his breeder could recognise him.
I use split plastic bands. The colour of each band represents a number and the leg it goes on means its either in the "tens" of the "units.
eg.
red band = 5
brown band -1
so a bird with red band on left leg and brown on right leg facing me would be bird 51
bird with brown on left and red on right would be bird 15
