Hi,
A few years ago I used to breed gouldians in a heated birdroom in the UK, Now living in the Gold Coast QLD I'm planning to get some gouldians and start keeping them again, Just wondering what is the best time of year for breeding gouldians in Australia ?

I thought it would be the summer months but looking at threads on here people seem to have eggs/chicks at all times of the year, so I'd like to know what members consider the breeding season.

Mine breed best from early Februrary until late August. But they do seem to breed for almost the full year now.

Cheers

Where you are, the weather and the availability of green food all affect the answer to that question. Though there are ways arround the greenfood question as you will see elsewhere on the forum.

They like to breed when the days are at there shortest or getting shorter.Mainly around Feb to sept here. Then they start to moult out,and dont like to breed here in the hotter months aswell.

Last year all the birds including the gouldians were outside. This year I have most pairs outside but have 2 pair inside a shed. They are there only because the breeding flights they are housed in are not suitable to be left out. Each pair has the full size flight to themselves.

Thanks for your replies, from what I have read it seems avairys are the way to go over here, I used to breed in cages in the UK as this was the only way due to the weather so it was easy to control pairings, In your avairys do you breed 1 pair per avairy ? or do you have other methods of controlling the pairings ?
