Hi there all,
Im looking at breeding Gouldies at some stage but im not sure what to look for. Ive been told to look at the same coloured heads but im not sure if this is the only thing to look out for.
I have a RH WB cock at the moment so am meant to be looking at the same in a hen or does the body colour have a significant role in it as well?
Why am i meant to looking at just the head?
What to look at when breeding.

Gouldians produce more even sex ratios in their young when their mate has the same head colour. Keep reading every thread on here to do with Gouldians. White breasted is recessive so if you can get a white breasted hen you will get all white breasted young. If you can't you won't. However if you get a split white breasted hen you will get 50% white breasted young.
If you get a purple breasted hen all of the young will be visually purple breasted. Keep reading Gouldian threads on here. And enjoy your Gouldians, they are beatiful in all colours.

depends on what you want for your aviary ...if you want to reproduce a certain type then start with a pair of the same colours but if you want to have some fun experimenting with different colours then get whetever you fancy and go for it.
keeping and improving an already established type vs creating your own type.

it doesnt really matter what head colour you get but if you want your young to have an extremely vibrant head i would breed red head to red head. i find breeding the same head colours the young that get that same head colour are really attractive birds. sometimes birds that have been bred with different head colours will produce young with a red head but they sometimes look a bit scruffy with a few black colours here and there (females tend to be the worst). if i was you and had only one male rh/wb/gb i would get a rh/pb/yb that way you have two beautiful birds that both have a very nice mutation. i reckon this will make the cage look extremely attractive
