Just made a purchase of a young blue gouldian...
I'm 90% sure it's a young cock bird, still some moulting to do. If I could get a 2nd opinion on the sex of the little bugger would make me feel alit happier as I have had a blue cock bird moult into a beutiful hen before

This bird is at least 12 mths old, lilac breasted cock, its lost its head feathers due to stress or head picking or mites which now seem to be growing back, really its the wrong time of the year to be buy gouldians as their about to go into the moult, all young birds at this stage would be uncoloured,i breed a lot of blues and that one looks in poor condition, just my opinion, garyh
Oh really, thanks for the heads up. Thought by the look of it , it was moulting so still a young bird... Should I be spraying it with a mite spray or something? I was about to dose with Moxidectin plus... the other 2 goukdians it was with were a similar stage of moult... I had thought... I have had goukdians moult in August myself so just thought it was that situ.... I hope he will be ok and I can get him back to good condition. Hes by himself in a quarantine cage atm, I feel bad now I should have realised that he was nearly fully colored and it wasn't a moult but something else that has made him look like that, well now it's on me to get him back to good condition. Thanks for the advice
Hi all, thought I'd give an update on the cock bird I had shown earlier, he's now 99% re-feathered and looking forward to a breeding season in the new year. Thanks for the chats!

Great looking Bird mate, the scaley legs look like they have cleared up pretty good from the first picture
