Is their a easy way to tell male and females apart? I know I have heard things like "males sing" and "males or more colourful", but wanted to know if you anyone on the forum has any tricks or identifying the sex.

You talking about orange cheek waxbills? if so there expensive!! And beautiful if you do actualy have them i would say more vibrant color would be the tell tale.

Initially I used to get all the young DNA sexed.
After a couple of seasons with them I found that the mature males (9 - 12 months) are much more silvery down through the front than the hens which tend to be an almost "matt" grey. Also the cocks sing quite readily - a little like male St Helenas.
