The local Perth gecko, not sure the name, have lived inside my mouse proof aviary for some years
Not aware of any problems, but if they took the odd chick I would be unlikely to notice.
Still seem to breed plenty of finches, so I doubt the predation rate for this species is high.

"Chloroxylenol is not significantly toxic to humans, is practically non-toxic to birds, and is moderately toxic to freshwater invertebrates. It is highly toxic to fish, cats, and some amphibians and should not be used around them"

The toxicity to cats should make RodL happy, but no mention of reptiles
Given that birds are just the modern reptiles, I think it is unlikely to be effective.

Definitely effective on the Asian House Gecko

Another problem caused by these little !@#$%'s is that they will 'fuse' electric motors such as are found in roller doors, air conditioners etc

So, I’ve been noticing a few geckoes in my aviary and I went out and bought some Dettol. If I mix it with water, where should I spray it?

Spray Dettol on the back and walls of the cage where birds can't land on it or peck at it. If you have paving around the aviary, you can spray it on that too.

If you can, spray the Dettol undiluted, onto the geckoes themselves . .

If you used nestboxes, Coopex (dust or wettable) in boxes will help

Sticky paper sheets will help a bit more, but obviously must not be inside aviary . . some people have moral objections to sticky paper



Getting rid of Geckoes is a long-term and constant project . . They are very prolific breeders

Go around at night with a vacuum, suck them up and spray mortein down the nozzle when your done
My Gramps has huge trouble with them in his house up north, and he loves a bit of this gecko hunting.............. makes his day

That's because I have seen what it does.

Have you ever seen a mouse skinned alive?
The sticky mouse paper says grab stuck mouse by tail and pull off paper. Don't ever do that, it is ^%$#in gross and doesn't take the entire mouse off.

How about a bird wrapped in the stuff?
Try cutting that crap off a bird's feathers and beak.

The stuff should be banned because it is cruel and inhumane. And I know we are talking about killing introduced pests that are preying on our pets, but if you're going to kill something, do it quick and clean.

For the OP, you could also put mouse wire over the aviary wire. That will stop them getting in.

Agreed, I heard of someone going into a vet with their pet GC Conure stuck to one of them, because the person wanted to 'Keep any mice away from the cage', its terrible stuff
At least use something to snap their neck or poison them in the hour, or kill them quickly yourself

But anyway, we're talking about those bastard gecko's here..........
