I doubt this will endanger the babies. But it is best to discourage the little pest, just the same. Just when you see this happening, gently remove the pest. It will get the message. The world has moochers in all species.

I hav a conundrum ..... one of the babies From my first fledged babies from red head finch, is invading the box that my black head finch is currently feeding her babies (x 4) the father of these babes seems to be ok with this baby invading the nest, and the black headed mum mostly stands outside the nest box wen dad is sitting on the babies. The other babies from first feeding r not doing this thank goodness. They seem to be feeding themselves ok. Should this behaviour endanger the black headed babies, or does this happen often? Appreciate yr advice, as always.

How old is the baby that returns to the nest?
Is it begging for food from its own parents or from the other parents?

It might be a late bloomer and still wants food from the adults.
As long as it isn't harming the new babies it shouldn't be an issue. But make sure it isn't preventing the new babies from getting enough food.

Mny thx for yr advice guys, knowing this guy loves his food encouraged him out of nest with green seeds, hes having a bath atm, so I expect he ll need a snooze then..lol

It sounds like he's a late bloomer (or a mummy's boy) and she's a really good mum

Before I transfer birds to new aviary, I wld like to treat all finches for mites and/or lice, is there a specific treatment for finches is my question, I have sum treatments for parrots/pigeons, chickens but will keep a treatment for the finches separate I think., and I have second lot of babies emerging as I speak.

Only thing I use is Ivormecden in the water once a year. (Unless I have a reason to think I need to do it more often) Take the water away before dark. Put water with Ivormecden in in the morning and leave. follow vets directions. It works for mites and worms at the same time.

Just reading about ivermectin from previous forum notes, it doesn’t have room for error it seems, and U guys know wot u r doing, I’m a novice and not sure!

Don't use chemicals when there are babies in the nest. Wait until all the babies have been out of the nest for at least 1 month.

If you treat one lot of birds, you should treat all your birds at the same time, and clean the aviaries to prevent cross contamination or exposure to parasites in the environment. This includes cleaning perches, turning the soil over and washing the inside of the aviary down.

Ivermectin is meant to be safe and is recommended by most vets. There are several names for it but they all contain the same ingredient. I haven't used it for years but I used to put 1 drop on each bird or 1 drop in each bird's beak.

You can also add it to water and let them drink it, however the birds often get different doses like that.

Your best bet is to talk to your vet about dose rates for your particular birds.

Thank u for yr help, babies have just com out so I checked them after 3 days, they all seem clear of any mites or other creepy crawlies , so I’ll wait till they re much older and keep checking them all.
