Hello everyone
This is John from Ceduna, Eyre Peninsula SA.
I used to keep finches 40 years or so ago and am looking to
keep some Australian Finches again.
I'm probably going for the easier ones like Gouldians, Star Finches,
Emblemas, and possibly masked finches. Wouldn't mind
breeding Orange Breasted Wax Bills as well, and would keep my mind
open to other species. Will be avoiding Zebs and Double Bars as they
breed a bit prolifically - even though I love them.
Ceduna is 800 km from Adelaide so wondering if anyone on Eyre Peninsula
keeps Finches for a hobby. It will be a few months before the aviary gets built,
so I am in the planning stages and thinking about practical considerations
given the remote locality, possible pests and the occasional summer heat
issues.

Welcome to the Forum both of you. The Build section of the Forum has lots of great information on how to avoid rodents e.g. put your foundations down 600/700mm. And how to keep your avairies cool in stinking hot summers e.g. put a shadecloth over the avairies but about 20/30cms above, this keeps flying distracted too.
