Hi all. I recently started thinking about starting to breed finches. But I know very little about it. So I decided to register on the forum and get the information I need. I hope I don't seem too boring to you

Ask all the questions you want, and read everything you can on here.
Being well prepared is wise - many of us probably wish we did more research back in the day.

Hi Shawn, welcome to the forum. What species do you think you'll start with?

I don't know yet, I'm just studying the information. Maybe you can suggest the easiest species to breed?Shane Gowland wrote: 07 Dec 2022, 16:27 Hi Shawn, welcome to the forum. No, I haven't played Sac Casino. I don't like casinos at all.

Zebras in all their mutations are easy to breed and facinating to see what you get. Even more interesting if you breed them in separate small avairies for each mutation.
Now if I could just convince hubby that I need to double the number of avairies I have.

Zebras may be easy to breed but that is only if they are healthy and remain that way. I envy those who can breed them. All mine are getting sick. I'm down to one breeding pair. All my others just lay dead eggs. I lose at least one finch a month with no chicks... although I have 2 new chicks I'm not sure what there chances would be of survival, how long it will take before they fall ill too. Even if they live I'm still losing other fiches. If I lose my last breeding pair, its no more zebras.

But as you have said FCB - you believe you bought sick birds.
I have been keeping and breeding many healthy Zebs of many mutations over more than 35yrs.
