Hi all,
I have just gone into Blue Faced PF and have started feeding termites. These are the small rainforest termites, mounds for which I have on my property in Kuranda FNQ. The birds seem to love them but I have a few questions for the experienced live food feeders out there.
The termites seem to retreat into the larger pieces I have provided. I notice the birds actively shake the smaller pieces to dislodge more termites, which makes me think to break up the pieces into around 3 cm sized bits. What is the optimum sized pieces of mound to put out?
or should I do the shaking and just provide the termites in a dish?
Will the termite migrate from the pieces into the tray if I leave then there long enough?
How often should I provide termites to optimise breeding performance?
TIA
re the BFPF, I notice they are very keen foragers - always pecking at the ground and the wire to get small insects and spiders (I am guessing, but they are chasing something). I have a planted aviary on the edge of rainforest. I also note they take Green Ants - which are about 10mm long. Suspect there is no harm here - probably a good source of calcium but note I will need to maintain a good worming and cocci regime.

Sounds like a great setup for the birds.
