(This is reposted)

Oook I've joined because I've been watching a small Zebra at our petshop. They're trying to get rid of all three, two fawns(?) have paired off and are nesting this little guy who seems to be a dark mutation is being bullied, I know it's normal in birds but his getting worse everytime I see him. Now his neck is fully plucked, very, very red and has a raw texture to it. I feel terrible for him so I'm planning to take him in.
The plan is to A.) Keep him till his healthy or better and if I can get a larger cage (I'll be keeping him in my budgies hospital cage) get a second finch and set them up in my room.
or B.) Keeping him till his fit and adopt him out, this is only if I can't find a cheap, large cage.
I've done my reading up and I can see this could be pretty stresful for him so I'm hoping that any info you guys can offer can be given.
As I said I've been reading up on keeping them I just need to hear from other owners now.

Hopefully the rest fits, I'm from Aus In highschool I own 2 budgies, 2 dogs, 2 lizzards and some fish. I'm an artist and interested in Ornithology, hopefully you guys can get to know me because I plan to stay around. :D

Thanks for putting up with my typos!

Very nice of you to care about the little fella , I think all of your ideas sound good and any situation may be better than the one he is in .
Does the shop owner have any idea ? Normally they would separate the bird themselves.
Get him out of there as soon as possible and if you feel that something is very wrong at the petshop , take some photos of the poor little thing and send them and a letter to the RSPCA.
OR at least tell the owner to wake up to himself. Anyhoo welcome to the forum :D

Your plan sounds like a good one. Into wildlife and art, you sound like my daughter at the same age. Good luck with the finch and your highschool studies.

Hi and welcome to the forum Leel, glad to see you made it here.

You could try ebay for cheap cages. Having said that I bought a budgie type cage for $20. Also noticed that the local supermarkets are selling cages too. $16 from memory. Cheap as chips or Golo or any of the cheaper dollar stores have some kind of cage that might fit the bill. Maybe the store that you get him from will do a special deal if you point out the problem with him.

Yes, that petshop has closed down the Avian section, they only have a few hand raised birds and the finches, I'm glad they closed it. I've always noticed birds in a bad condition. I checking to see if his around tommorow :)
As for a cage I'm going to hunt around I might just try E-bay. For now the folks next door have one I might ask about seeming it's been un-used for years.
Thanks everyone for the replies. Hopefully I'll stay around the forum C:

I got her, she is very sweet.
The other two went to a home so she was all alone.
I'm pleased with how she is setting in she isn't jumping around anymore.
