quails can breed from 10 weeks but I would never until at least 12 months.

The quails can easily get through the standard finch mesh you get at bunnings etc. They are roughly the size of an adults thumbnail.

babies will drown in water 1/2 an inch deep.

I buy a big (maybe 20L) plastic storage box from the local $2 shop, put mouse bedding in the bottom, a peanut butter lid with water, and another with finch mix, and a juice bottle lid with egg & biscuit which they will devour.

I also get a large plastic plant pot, turn it upside down, and then cut an arch shaped hole so the quails can go in an out of the pot. it's like a hideaway.

My quail just run round the bottom of the avairy, but sand floor to nest on and own food and when young water bowls. Baby quail, think fluffy marble with legs. Must have raised sides of something solid on avairys housing quail. standard budgie wire the round type just walk through.

Oh wow they are really cute.....are they in your aviary? Two different colours too, very well camouflaged against the bark, at first I thought there were only 2 then I saw the brown one of the left, then the brown one in the middle.

You can tell what colour as adults they will be by the colour of their baby fluff. Though the first time you have mixed silver and cinnamon babies you will notice you have to look more carefully. Must be getting short sighted, completely missed the normal chicks at first look. Read Dianes post and looked again, yep 4 babies not 2. So when you have quail running round your avairy floor and mum has been sitting remember to look where you put your feet when entering your avairy. Squashed baby quail is didtressing for everyone.

there are normals and silvers in that pic, cinnamons look like silvers but have reddish brown stipes on their back.

Yep only saw 2 of them and that was with my glasses on !
