If you buy maggots from a bait shop how do you store them and how long do they stay alive? Is there a problem with them changing into flies? My family would NOT be happy if there were escapees inside.

I store them at the bottom of the fridge in the tub they came in and inside a plastic bag which is then put into an icecream container. The Bulla Icecream variety have the lift up lids, they work really well.
This last lot of gents I bought on the 10th July and........just checking the fridge......the last few in there are still moving, slowly, but still moving and they havent changed into anything.

Thanks for that Diane as it sounds as though I might need some if my orange breasted pair hatch young and that would be a way to have a small supply fairly discretly. Keep thinking eggs surely any day but the male is still fussing with the nest and adding more to it each day. I thought it looked finished about a week ago.
