Shanny I think your zebs may need more food or a better quality food , they should never run out of seed as this can lead to problems in the gut plus they cant deal with the cold if they are hungry .
What seed are you feeding them and how much?

Also if it is particularly cold their food intake will need to be increased to keep warm. So be very careful in cold weather to make sure you give them more than you think they will need. Better safe than dead finches.

Woolys seed is of low quality that's why its cheap,maybe you could get some straight canary seed and add to seed you already have and give them hard boiled egg shell and all smashed up with a fork but not to much at the start until they get used to it.that would be a cheap source of protein.
