not so much a question as a long rant

There is a cat.
A Black cat.
A cat who is annoying the S**t out of me.
It jumps on top of the quail cages at any time during the day or night. Our wimp of a dog is too frightened to chase it. Last night 2.00AM I had to get up and chase it off.
I really can't think what to do about it. I'd catch it in my net then give it a "prolonged high - pressure drink" but it's too damn fast.
I've tried tying the dog up next to it. that = dog cringes in a corner while cat happily sticks it's paw through and attempts (thank god unsucessfully) to maul Skinnipeep.
I've tried putting things on top of the cages. No matter, cat pushes them off. even a few slabs of wood! . (maybe superman needs a pet cat instead of a kryptonian dog. this one'd suit him fine.)

try a couple of mouse or rat traps that might deter it for a while

good idea Di , wont hurt the cat but the pinch on the nose will scare him hopefully .......trap it and release it in the next state ( not NSW please)

sardine in the mouse trap bud for now... try citronella spray that you can get to stop cats well deter them anyway as they hate the smell on a cloth near the cage ....pete

It just doesnt go away does it ( cat problems ) anyhoo cats have no place in a country that has no real predators of its own and a native animal population consisting of small mammals, marsupials and colourful birds , all easy prey .

Cat trap from your local council sounds good.A lead pill works well if your out of town.

my answer? train your own cat.
we had a cat literally MOVE IN (it obviously got lost from the nearby 'burbs) a couple of years ago and it would sit near the aviaries watching the birds. first opportunity i had i put a bell collar on it with high visibility reflective spots so it cant hide easily. next step, sit by your aviaries with hose and wait for it to come near, then give it a huge blast, drenching it, yelling, screaming, jumping, everything. ran after it as well. now the cat knows not to go within 20 metres of the aviaries or it'll cop a shoe to the head (yes, its happened before, had to hop to pick it up again). but the cats territory still protects around the aviaries so no more late night cat visits.

if thats not an option (which realistically its probably not ), put something sticky on top of and around the edges of the aviaries. cats hate walking on anything that sticks to their feet. wouldnt know what to use though... or you could use chilli spray. the cat will walk on it, then clean its paws and get a blast of chilli and remember the painful experience and where it had it. in theory. hope something works for you
