Well I gotta say Jay that Teds birds look awesome ( on the red cordial lol ) and as relative newbies to the breeding thing Im happy to look into anything the old farts do to keep their birds healthy and happy .
Totally sick of learning by my mistakes and happy for any guidance whether it be a home remedy or a proven remedy . Im sure you can relate to this Jay . :D

A live time ago when I was in the military, red cordial sachets were issued with the ration packs to HELP clean the local water of any bugs plus other things. The last thing you want to have is diarrhea when out bush. This was based on scientific research not guess work. Unfortunately the military always keeps things a secret. I would hazard a guess the old times, codgers, old farts etc probably served the country at one time or another?

From an old F.....
It's an old style sanitiser not a colour food.
There are far better colour foods but becareful which you use and what birds are fed it.
I have seen Green Finches with a warm shade of feather colour and ut doesn't suit the bird.
Spiralina is by far the best red enhancer(not a colour dye)

Mulberries work wonders at turning a white rabbit pink. That was not intentional. He was running round loose in the back yard and making a pig of himself. Would probably work with the birds too. Certainly works with my washing when the wild birds drop the results on it.

Seriously doubt if the cordial makes the birds change colour Ted has white gouldians and they are extremely white , cordons are blue and O/Breasts are brown and orange the only birds that have a pink hue are the plumheads since they bath in it.
From the article and what Ted has told me its all about killing bacteria .
Honestly if it was going to make a living creatures skin go red then I would have had 3 very red children ...they loved red cordial.
