I'm hoping someone can assist me - I have a parrot finch that had quarantined as i bought it from an auction. His vent was swollen & balding or that could just be it is stretched. When i got it home, i noticed it immediately but put it down to the bath taking they can be obsessed with as he carries on with more energy and feeding than any other finch i have. I decided to stop depriving him and put him into the main aviary with his new girlfriend. Well it was a match made in heaven - My supposed female immediately started mounting him (?) - and "she" is the one bringing the feather to the nest and "he" looks healthy and active as ever. So then i thought maybe both of the supposed experts were wrong and my girl was a boy and my boy was a girl bringing egg-binding into the picture as a reason for the baldness. I dont care if they never breed - but i am really looking for someone to tell me whats up with the bald looking bottom. It gets a little poo dirty but washes off with a bath and it is so active and feeding so well i have a hard time assessing if it is actually a dirty hippy of a bird versus an unwell parrot finch. There is not one sign of ill being. Is this bird ok do you think?
PART 2: My juvenile African Fire finch sits in the sun puffed up occaisionally. Is he just catching some rays in the cool morning. I've been watching him. He and the girl Fire busy themselves all day & nap together on & off. No real sign of lethargy.

Are you able to get a photo on here ? No expert myself but theres plenty of them here that can point you in some direction as to a remedy.
Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.

I'll try to get a pic up - saw today looks fuller but with new white feathers. My other red parrot finch is pied white (not the yellow i always see) Been watching it like a hawk and still see no adverse behaviour. The Part Two: African Fire just appears to like sunbathing (he's just out the nest i think the guy said). Eating and investigating up a storm at all other times - I have habitat aviaries. The two Fires are just busy bodies. I'm South of the Swan River in Perth.
