Unfortunate losses.

UPDATE:

2 of the 3 eggs hatched one was infertile. Sadly the chicks died. I think this was because I disturbed them or it could've have been because this was there first clutch. Who knows but I bought them a cuttle-bone and a larger nest today. NO PEEKING!

I'd put it down to inexperience, rather than disturbance, short of sitting in the nest with them, most zebies will take nest inspections in their stride.

i feel your pain, I found a dead chick today , it was from my pair of cordons, i'm guessing the chick was about 7-8 days old...

I was sure that where they had built there nest a chick couldn't possibly fall out, do parents throw out chicks if they die in the nest or were runty??

Not sure if there are any other chicks left in the nest still but noticed the parents still taking turns coming out so maybe there's still sumfin left.

There was no food in it's crop and there was a hole in his chest, either way its sad when you lose babies.
