Howdy all. Came home tonight to find my 7 day old emblema chicks all thrown out on the floor. 1 was dead but popped 2 live ones back in the nest. Parents seemed uninterested. Watched for a few minutes only to see a Hecks longtail peering into the emblema nest with great interest. My guess is that the Hecksies have chucked the emblema chicks out, either because they want the nest for themselves are just because they are utter barstards! The parent emblemas seemed to have given up on the chicks so don't expect to have any live chicks 2moro.

Emblemas are so easy going , Ive seen my goulds do this repeatedly .. The emblemas just move on with no regard for the chicks.

yes, I love my Emmys. They just fit in anywhere and don't cause trouble. Love my Hecks too, but they are such buggers of things. Never encountered this sort of thing before. The emblema nest is close to and faces the entrance door, so I get a pretty good view of what goes on. I think my little emmy babes will be either frozen or chucked out again in the morning

Sorry to hear, can you for the future close of a small section of your aviary and let the painted's go in that section to breed, cause the hexs will not leave there nests alone now.

I took all my finches out of the aviary do have a time out while I decided what to do .....Goulds are going in an aviary on their own which will leave yellow and red emblemas with ruddies and OBs ...should make for a peaceful arrangement.

Never had a problem with the Hexies til now. I think it is 1 of 2 new hecks hens that I introduced in that particular flight last week. I had them as a single adult pair for ages but they never did much. Then the old hen died, So I chucked a young cock and 2 hens in and they seemed to have re-paired and hopefully will start to nest soon. Hopefully they mind their own beeswax and let the emmys do their thing from now on.

Well, I got a big surprise yesterday morning when I did the morning aviary rounds. Mum Emblema was back on the nest and the 2 babies that I rescued are doing fine...Phew. So I caught out the Hecks and moved them to another flight to avoid any more mischief. I know they're only Emblemas and only worth a few bucks each, but I'm havin such a disasterous season that I feel like I have to save everything that I can! I still think that the Hecks would be fine in this same flight but believe that the emblemas were so vulnerable because they have built such an open nest in an obvious place. We will have to wait and see.

Wow only a couple of bucks ? I get $25.00 each chick , the fella buys the clutch sets them up with unrelated partner and sells them $65 - $75 a pair ...of course that will all change once all the new season birds go up for sale .
