Well the quails have put all other birds to shame, this morning when I went to check (she has been setting on nest for 17 days) I saw a tiny straw coloured fluffball stumbling around :soppy: . Soon after, 3 brown fluffballs joined it :soppy: :soppy: . So 4 out of 6 eggs hatched. So far daddy quail seems to be behaving, I think he might even be protecting the hen and chicks (though I could be misinterpreting his behaviour). Can't post photos because when I tried to take some, the battery died. Camera on charge so hoping to add photos later today. :)

I have noticed the parent birds in a sort of head down, feathers ruffled pose making themselves look bigger, uttering a tccckkkk tcccckkkk sound if they think the chicks are being threatened

Mum is being an excellent mother so far. she just ruffled her feathers and opened her wings, while clearly calling for the chicks when I reached out my hand to entice them over. Dad still looks like he might be helping to protect/hide them, he will go up to the hen and push himself against her, between her and the aviary door. All chicks still alive and well. So far so good...

Congratulations. Always good to leave the Dad and observe, as there are as many good as bad Dad's. Actually if we get if right the number of gooduns should increase as if short of hens the good guys get the girls. :parp: And pass on there nice natures. :soppy:
