Hi all
My aviary is only 6-8 weeks old, but already with over 20 Gouldians in it i see that im cleaning the floor almost every second day from the seed that is being tossed out of the hopper, or even the husk for that matter. I was frustrated by the mess and wanted to eliminate mice, etc.
So i have invested in a couple of $2 Kitty Litter Trays. The hopper now sits inside the kitty litter tray and the birds can make all the mess they like, cause i now have only the kitty litter tray to empty every few days and the mouse will be less attracted to a clean aviary.
I will try and get some photos to show the difference!!!
After spending the time to concrete my floor and have a drain to house away mess, its now only minor mess to hose, and the seed is much more controlled.
Only a thought of mine
What do others use to prevent this waste of seed and unwarranted mess???
Enjoying the forum
Regards
Adam

Large Saucer would work as well, yes your right.
Now with the light weight Tray i have been able to attach it to the bench i had suspended off the side of the aviary, so everything is off the floor also.
Again, may not work for some, but appears to be working for me
Thanks

We have a seed container with catcher underneath - still get some fall out but most goes in the catcher. We do a light sweep most days anyway, and we only have a few birds so not much mess.

The saucer works well now if only I could toilet train them. A lot of people use the kitty litter tray It will be what I use next its just that I already had the saucer .
Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.

Yea a common way to catch spilt seed, put a wire screen across top and this will stop birds eating contaminated seed from droppings.

Thanks for the photo
Do you still get much mess on your aviary floor?
I may look at that design halfway down the tray, then i have cleanliness and health issues covered, just want to address the seed being tossed all over the floor
Pedantic as it may sound im all about being efficient
Work long hours, young family, high maintenance wife and now Aviary full of Gouldians, I must be crazy. Not enough hours in my day

Empty every week-end could go two weeks if need be no seed on floor, they make a bigger mess from the greens and soaked seed.As you can see the wire grate is half way down stops the picky little mongrels flicking the seed they don't want today on the floor.
