Hurstville sydney cons is space! One day i will get a decent house. 1 small bird aviary used for breeding and holding sometimes. Also some boxes for putting my goulds in but only for the breeding season. Finding time never enough in one day. Work very hard at my birds to get were i am with them but realy enjoy it its not a chore

Pros lotsa seeding grasses..cheap chinese grocers everywere greenfood galore. lotsa good bird shops and other people breeding birds. Even tho i have not much space i still manage to breed alot of birds with what ive got. so it kinda works out. Only think jeez how much will i breed when im not so crowded.

I have lived in Melbourne and kept birds but struggled with the weather, not only the winter but the several days on end when it was grey, cold and damp.
None or little sun to brighten up the birds. The good point was an excellent club system then, good bird dealers and many breeders nearby.
Then I moved to NSW(just) but the climate is far far better.Same rainfall, possibly colder in winter(frosts) but far more sunshine and few grey sunless days.
I have plenty of land for aviaries, infact all I need in the way of things birds require.I guess the down side is few bird breeders near by but that is life.
Even though I lived in a good suburb of Melbourne would I go back NO WAY.
I live right next to the Murray River in a small town of 3000, Albury is a 20 min drive and all the major retailers are there plus many other facilities.
Great Wineries and tourist attractions here as well.
We do not have the massive costs slammed on to you like when in the cities. No parking meters and the cost of living is far far cheaper.
No I am happy here thank you!!!!!!!

I do not have a problem with Foxes,Feral Cats,Currawongs,Butcherbirds or Hawks.
Infact all seems to be fine.Only constant fight is against the Mice that come in looking for free board and lodgings.
They will never be beaten but I have to keep trying and limiting their numbers with TomKat poison(red blocks)
The space available is one of the best things, even with the very large set up I have already I could still build another aviary behind my existing system
40mx50m. Maybe if I was 20 years younger or something really good mysteriously appeared then I could consider it.

Glen is a very handy person to have in your area and he has a nice set up.
I will be having some good discussions with him when we are in Africa especially now he is getting more involved
with the breeding of the Weavers.
Living on a large block of land enabled me to build my big flight which is now around 100ft+(30m) x 75ft( 22m)
Which is bigger than most city blocks of land these days.
I have no need to worry about limiting space. We are quite happy here

30m x 22m !!! wow.
they must be almost able to fend for themselves in there?
get the camera out and share with us....please.

Glen is also getting into whydahs and the required st.helenas as well so he lacks nothing in the enthusiasm department.
i must go and bother him again before he goes o.s.

by the way Eorix, i have a new aviary 8m x 8m with just a few birds in it currently....it is planted but the trees are immature at the moment, plenty of rye grasses/milk thistles etc.....would it be suitable for a pair of grennies/madagascars or even bishops.do they mix ok with say diamonds or masked?

South west Sydney in elderslie
On small block of land and heavy residential so guess I'm lucky to have the aviary I have 3.1 x 2.5. Seams to be a lack of breeders locally have found one older gentleman breeding goulds and canaries but he has a little bit of land. Access to food and aviary needs are not to bad access to Sydney only 45 min on a good day and right time. Not aware of any bird sales or any pet places that have a real strong finch focuss. Cant wait for the day to come to more to somewhere bigger but at the moment will be here for a while

30 m x 22 m :sob:

That is more than 4 times my block of land  . Well thats inner city living. Although i still get blue wrens and figbirds in my backyard :D .

Pros of living in the Hunter close to good breeders, good bird dealers/petshops, 2 good size sales and a good finch club that i WILL join when i get my act together
