I agree with Spanna.
I have had hens that even though they haven't been near the nest in 2 hours (I didn't realise they had a nest) and would continue sitting, but to no avail and all the embryos died.
Sorry Shanny![Sad :(](./images/smilies/icon_e_sad.png)

Mmm, I have just had 8 babies hatch out quite a surprise too as I assumed they would die. Mum quail let the eggs go cold twice for an hour or so, once during a rain shower late evening and I eventually gave up trying to get her back. They are not the brightest birds.

sorry monique, can't agree with them being not so bright ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_e_smile.png)
I have 3pr who all love to come and grab food from my hand - over the years they've learnt to distinguish between lettuce, spinach, endive & rocket, and will eat them all in order without fail, even if I mix them up
I just needed to say something in their defence... Well done with the chicks!!!!![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.png)

I just find them (quails and most groundbirds) rather silly at parenting. They just keep walking while the little ones drop like flies behind.
