My partner tells me that where he grew up King Island the Californian Quail were like a plague to the point where huge culls were undertaken (unofficially ) .
Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.

yes I have heard about calis on King Island... they're in NZ too.

Yes they are mad keen on shooting feathered critters down there , the organised shooting clubs release pheasant when theres a shortage of things to kill .
Nothing else to do I suppose except grow cows and sheep and make cheese ..Just quietly there a bit strange lol .

It's interesting what is and isn't prohitited. I'm sure there is some reasoning to it, but it does seem rather random.

Very random ... no reasoning to some of the birds that a license is needed for or what constitutes a prohibited bird .
