i have 7 cockatiels (one pair breeding,one baby an four in another cage
plus does anyone got any advise about cockatiels
the four cockatiels are in the cage so they don't disrupt the the pair and i am not sure weather to colony breed or not
i have 3 males one is pretty young i say about 3-5 months, the other two are coming up on there 2nd year.i have 3 females all are old an in good condition to breed and my seventh cockatiel is a few weeks old so i m planning to teach him/her to do tricks and i m finding out what tricks i could train the tiel to do and what treats to give as a reward

colony breeding is OK if you dont have any particular bloodline or colour you want to stick to , quarrions love to be with their own kind and are very social birds so they should all get along ....however you dont want the girls to be breeding till at least 12 months old and you will want to be sure not to inbreed .
They will need space also as too many birds in a small area especially at breeding time will cause aggressive behaviour even with the quarrion.

i only have the breeding pair in a aviary until they are finished
do ya know of any signs to tell if a tiel pair has eggs without looking into the nestbox

if they are old enough to know what they are doing then 1 or both will stay in the nest box for prolonged periods of time if it is the first or sometimes even the second time around then they are usually pretty clueless as to what to do ...best bet is to set the nest up so you can check on eggs and chicks if however you think they are on eggs dont do it till the babies have left the nest .
