well that depends... in your mind, since you've obviously bred them, what exactly would be required? I was actually going to post a topic about this but anyway.
I'm not completely sure, but his aviary looks big enough and eventually he's making an even bigger one. Maybe when that one comes along.

The Madagascar Weaver ranks very highly in the looks department but ranks very low in the behavior section.
A large number of cockbirds can be very aggressive and in some cases down right murderous especially with any other bird with red feathering.
I have 3 groups, two are in aviaries on their own and the other group 1male, 3 females are in an aviary 12mx6m and don't seem to be doing any damage.
Unless you can give them an aviary to themselves I would move away from this specie.The other Weavers while more expensive are no where near as aggressive.

Dad has kept Mad. Weavers for a very long time. Never really had any success. A few years ago when he started to get really serious and built more aviaries he always made sure they were on their own. Becuase he wasn't having much luck thought he might throw a pair into his large avairy with a mixed collection. Aviary has a flight 7x5 by about 3-4metres high (pitched roof). Indoor flight about 2.5x2, with live shrubs, well protected and plenty of shelter and light. In the first night the cock weaver killed a couple of birds, including a green singer and green finches. Dad then spent the whole of the next day trying to catch the buggers to get them out of there. When he eventually caught them he felt like ringing some necks but the striking red of the cock bird in breeding season might just have saved his life.

By the way, Orix, I think I may have met you on the side of the road on your way to Sydney a few years ago to take a male weaver off your hands. Was that you?

I had no idea they were that aggro! he does have a small box-style aviary they could have to themselves, very small though.

Not sure about the meeting sorry but most of us have either met in the past or will meet in the future.

While here unless I have access to email etc in Africa I will be off the air for a month.
In under an hour I leave for Sth Africa which includes visiting the main Finch breeders and a 16day avian safari for want of a better name
There will be 6 from Australia, 4 from the UK and 2 fom NZ? All finch breeders!!!!
I will also be meeting a Finch Forum member from Cape Town

Your lighter coloured Green Gouldians will be Dilute Cocks, you put them to Yellow Hens.
Breeding Show Zebra Finches, Blue Gouldians, Pied Orange Breast.

Have fun on the holiday, look forward to the pics. Kevin glad you are going to do the Tri nun thing. I had been slapping my hand to prevent myself from taking them on. :silent: Love them but really don't have the ability to do them justice at the moment.
