Don't know either why they say give your finches lebanese but I sure prefer them over other types of cucumber. What mine also love are home grown green burpless straight out of the garden.Lets see if anyone has an answer to your question.

wasn't it because there was something in lebanese?
anyway I grow these so there's no real need to feed them other types.

Hi Steve,SteveC wrote:Most of my finches love lebanese cucumber especially RFPF. Can other types of cucumber be offered? If not,why not.
You would have to ask the birds!
I have done several tests with different types of cucumber.
Some they will pick at, others not touch, but only the Lebanese to they devour with gusto!
So I have no idea, but I am sure my finches do, and they know better then me what is good for them!

I had similar problems when I first started feeding cucumber and I found that the eat anything bird (Red Faced Parrot) jumped straight in and over a fortnight the others got curious and eventually folloed the lead of the RFP.
