It was a long time ago, when my daughter was quite young we had a holiday on Jersey so probably about 1978.
He relied on a lot of sponsorship of animals, but as an individual he did more than most.

he sure did :D
read just about all his books and I have more than 3/4 of them, I;m pretty sure, always collecting more though :D
nothing has ever made me laugh more than his book 'three singles to adventure' (a true story about his collecting trip to Guiana, Brazil etc. and especially a small town known as Adventure :D )

 Are you my alter ego?
Seriously, I'm surprised ANYONE younger than me has heard of Gerald Durrell.
I'm a big fan of The Bafut Beagles myself.
I went to Jersey Zoo, AKA the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust last year and spent 3 weeks there on the Endangered Species Recovery course. Jealous much?

Anyway, as for the footage from The Life of Birds, I have studied it closely and have come to the conclusion that the glow you see was 'painted on' in post production and not as a result of any special lighting. Sorry to disappoint.

PS. Jay, PM me your list of Durrell titles. I have a few doubles which might just be ones you need.

Loved "my family and other animals" strange upbringing, but it made him who he is. (before that I had though we were a little eccentric)
