Makes me feel even better about wanting them to know that Blue Caps are Endangered
not that that's a good thing.

Cool , good advice ...
Would a bank of suspended aviaries do the trick ?
Are any of the vulnerable birds not live food eaters ?

Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.

I'd be interested to see where the Aussie species fit into that list.
I don't know if any would be classed as Critically Endangered by those criteria, but there'd surely be a few in the Endangered list...

Any of the Parrot finches, or Munias can be bred without live food. The trade off is tons of fresh green seed heads. But even then, any species will benefit from some live food. If you had a canary in the cage or just persistency you may bred some of the others using an insectivorous mix. I have a mate that breeds Red Faced Pytilias on softfood, egg-food and green seeds. But he usually only gets 2-3 chicks per nest compared to 4-6 with live food.jusdeb wrote:...Would a bank of suspended aviaries do the trick ?

Suspended aviary would be ideal for most of the species barring Dybowskii Twinspots who do nearly everything on the floor lol. Suspended aviaries are also very good for reducing disease and protozoas and generally keeping clean. Again, I know a guy that successfully breeds all manner of Parrot Finches in suspended aviaries. However he does have wild seed growing underneath that pocks through the floor part. It’s funny because the birds keep it perfectly trim – as soon as it pocks through the wire – bang they eat it lol. He also keeps Green Avadavat’s (Green Strawberry) in this set up.
