Kimberley - I am 470ks north or the city. Don;t know if you come down to the midwest at all? Daughter will need to bring anything we succeed in getting with her at Christmas. (hmm - wonder if son realises his car is going to be used as finch transporter) Flab I will not make it myself, but daughter and you could perhaps lend moral support to each other.
Am going to have to give her list of to look fors. She knows how to pick a healthy bird due to growing up here. But will have to tell her what is what cause she is not aware of types so much.

Not good i'll miss this one as its the work Christmas lunch, can't knock back a free feed and drinks from the boss. I did enjoy the last Auction my daughter even bought some orange breasts, which are very happy in the aviary. Have to get the Bushranger (dad) to keep a look out for anything interesting for me.

Someone told us the other day that a lot of the birds sold at the auction are old or otherwise "duds" of some sort. Can anyone comment on how accurate this is? I am still hoping to get some YH but now worried about buying birds at the auction...

That's representative of most sales. All I can say is don't buy the first bird you see (Better to come home with none than a bad bird ). Talk to seller you should be able to pick the bullresidue. Most of all look at bird, feather, eyes, beak and clean legs without overgrown toenails, watch that bird is active. DON'T let them talk you into a bird you don't really want. Hope this helps

I dont know about the auctions or what others do, but I make a point of selling what I would be happy to buy at sales. All you can do is take your time and really check the birds out before bidding.

Being an auction you don't really get to meet the sellers, you have an hour beforehand to look at the birds before bidding.
At the last auction we bought 4pr of birds and all are still alive and active, there were about 240 lots sold and I would guess that
most were to members of the finch soc . No doubt some would be duds but if too many dud birds were sold I don't
think that the auctions could keep going. Always better to buy direct from the breeder but we don't all have the contacts.Just my thoughts.
