Since we got them last July, our DBs have done nothing but flap around backwards and forwards and get worked up about nothing. Over the last couple of days I have noticed changes in their behaviour, they are perching in different spots, sitting in a little branch with the rudimentary beginning of a nest maybe, and I saw one with a grass blade in its beak at some point. Also more recently we have noticed that the usual foursome or 1/3 split seems more often to be a 2 and 2 split, so they may finally be pairing off?? There are no really obvious signs of mating or nesting but certainly they are breaking out of their routine. There is hope for them yet!!!

They have been roosting in the wicker nesting baskets that we put in. The branch that the DB keeps going back to has been in for a few weeks. So this is all new behaviour.

Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.

Mine started building a nest out in the flight too. But it is against the wire on the southern side and it rained last night. Good luck with yours.

Thanks. Saw a DB this morning threading a long grass blade through some dried shrub. mind you at the rate they are going it will take them a month to build anything! But at least they are definitely doing something. Now to read up on DB and see if we can work out the pair (and maybe sex) from their behaivours.
Sorry to hear that your birds didn't pick a good spot FB. I am quickly working out why birds are not always renowned for their intelligence!!!!
