I'm looking for a gift for the old man. He's only real hobby is the birds. I was going to try and source some mex. siskings for him but he has already lined up another pair or two. I'm thinking maybe a really good book or dvd that someone can recommend? His main interest is song birds. Any ideas?

How about a years subscription to ABK or Aviary Life or Just finches.

Been there done that. ABK he wasn't too keen on cos it didn't have enough foucs on finches. Just finches he liked, and I thought great, I can just renew this each year for fathers day or his birthday, which ever it was for. But when the renewel came they sent it to him instead of me and he just paid it each year. Bloody mag company stuffed up my present idea.
I also registered him with the nsw finch society (?) but they did the same thing.

How good is RK new book?

Very comprehensive book. Covers such a wide range of finches, goes into natural and avairy conditions. Hybrid risks and the lot.
