Do you always suffer from insomnia? get some relaxation cds. Also go to your library and look for books on insomnia. Or google "sleep hygiene". Getting up instead of lying down "trying" to go to sleep is good but doing an activity that gets your brain ticking over won't help sleep! PM if you want more info. :)

couple of tricks i've used in the past when i was going through periods of waking up at 3am include:
- no TV/lights on in the house 15-30 minutes prior to going to sleep
- sit outside with a cup of hot chocolate just to unwinde (preferable outside)
- right down the things on your mind on a notepad....that way you wont forget the important things in the morning

I'm also a light sleeper so any noise wakes me up...my wife recently bought me a set of ear plugs...the best $2 I have ever spent...I've slept like a log for the past 4 nights...cheers, Paul

My daughter has kept a notebook under her pillow since she was about 10. If she wakes up she just turns on a torch, writes down everything that comes to mind, turns off the torch and goes back to sleep. She has written award winning poetry this way.
