Why is it that my birds eat from the feeder , drop the husks back into the catcher part and then look at me like they are starving coz they are too dumb to spit the husks away from the hopper ?
I could possibly get away from the house for a night here or there if they knew how to eat properly

Yeah definitely will do, haven't had any more losses since she started feeding each day so I'm assuming that starvation was the cause. Hate to let my know that this maybe the case she was kinda hoping it was some sort of disease so she wouldn't feel so bad  love her dearly for trying though!

Hi shaunh,

Sorry for your loses. I have been through my own hell over the last few weeks (not with birds) so I know how you are feeling. The first thing that sprang to mind was Coccidiosis or Cochlosomosis especially after all the rain we have been having everywhere.

To treat this I can recommend Turbosole from Australian Pigeon Company (online).

Well just got back home to the mess that was my aviary, total losses seam to be 15 birds which include my 3 female stars and all my goulds, plus 2 clutches of zebs. going to get in and go through and give a big clean out and tidy up. Very upset but one positive is one of my chick zebs that survived is colored up and I think looks stunning.

Where did you get that one from snap ? Is that a catcher under the feeder part ?

Yeah it is keeps the aviary clean of all the seed husks, has a line of wire over the opening so no birds can fall into the seed husk catcher.
Got it from a local bird shop think it was his last one, I'm sure he will be getting more if you want me to get you one?
I can take some more photos for you if you want me to PM or post them on the forum for you.

We used to have these in all our aviaries you can get them with dividers in them so you can have finch mix and sun flour seeds separate.

Mine is similar to that.

Think the only difference is a lack of a wooden perch on mine. The drawer where the husks go is huge and its quite unbelievable how much would end up on the floor without it.
I got mine from a bird sale and I agree the best money Ive spent, as soon as the bird sale time comes around again I will be buying three more.
