I spotted this Bowerbird out by the night light this morning. There is a pair that turns up most mornings. They are fantastic mimics.Their repitoire includes cats, whistling kites,Yellow throated miners,White Plumed Honeyeaters, and chickens with lots of harsh crackling sounds thrown into the mix.On two occasions ive been fortunate enough to witness a displaying male and the show,on both occasions lasted over half an hour.

My parents house at Bowen mountain had a pair that visited daily ( though maybe not the same bird , bowers all the same) they were great mimickers and buggers for stealing anything colourful laying around ...My father found a bower once but him being him wouldnt show us in case we spooked the birds or went back later poking around ( he knew his kids hey ).
Very nice addition to the backyard .

Bowen Mountain is between Kurrajong and Springwood NSW . Mostly crown land so dont know if they would have been the same or not .
Oh and you have a holiday house or your parents have a holiday house ?

At that Bowen Mountain bowerbirds other than Satin would be quite spectacular. It was probably a satinjusdeb wrote:Bowen Mountain is between Kurrajong and Springwood NSW . Mostly crown land so dont know if they would have been the same or not .

Distribution for Great

For Western:

For Spotted:

And for Satin:

Within 5km of Bowen Mountain there has been 12 records of Satin Bowerbirds, but no other bowerbirds ;)
