Ive signed the petition too.
I signed quite a few of this type of petitions, one for stopping the fur trade in dog skins, minks and the slaughter of whales.

I can not condone animal torture or cruelty but I think that I have to say that much of what we find acceptable or intolerable is a cultural artifact. The reality is that if it's indisputably proven that it's wrong to eat dogs then the same argument can be made for cattle, sheep, pigs and poultry. I was more than a little shocked when I moved to the Philippines to find that many here also eat dogs and to see a labrador strung up on a beach having the hair singed from it's body in preparation for butchering is quite confronting but from the perspective of this society I can see whole pigs being spit-roasted on the foot-path of Manila every weekend when I go in so is it any different? This may be the only time I agree with PETA - there is no objective difference but I'm not going to become a vegetatian and join that mob. PETA will want me to give up keeping caged birds too! Certainly we should all stop cruelty to animanls and we should treat then with respect but that doesn't mean we can't use them for companions or food. I can accept that eating carnivores is a grossly inefficent method of obtaining sustanence but tainting any argument with emotions however deeply felt by the proponent isn't going to sway me. I hope this doesn't result in a barrage of hate mail but it may liven things up!

From the article I read it was more about humanely slaughtering the dogs . Totally agree that different cultures have different diets and whos to say who is right and who is wrong .
Abbottoirs here have stepped up considerably over the last few decades under the watchful eye of animal welfare organisations . So I guess as much as it sickens me the thought of eating dogs , if they must be used as a food source then let them be housed and killed humanely.

OR

If outlawing dog meat is the main objective then offer and supply an alternative food source.

Its never going to be black and white is it ...take away the dog meat and a child goes hungry .

:purplex: I think about that every time I sign one of these petitions. :purplex:
I sign mainly to stop the cruel way in which the animals are despatched. To force the government at least educate the people that no "machismo" comes from torturing a defenseless animal.

This trade in dog meat was almost non existant before the Korean war...food shortages encouraged it.It's the mediaeval attitude to animals that sickens me...

As I type these people are in the middle of a foot and mouth outbreak.
They are vaccinating cows but destroying pigs...Huge tipper lorries dumping over a million this year alone into giant pits...and of course being Korean...not bothering to kill them first...ruddy evil scumbags. It's about time they joined the modern world and began treating animals with respect. The west should insist on it..it's our billions that have created their industries and modernised their country.I for one will avoid any product I find is made in their country.
