These are the free range Grassies , usually up to 20 this time of year as they bring their young in to feed with them ....



And these are my Grey Pied Red Rump Grass Parrots ( what a title hey ) still in quarantine awaiting a suspended aviary .



If any one was wondering how hard they can bite ....bloody hard and twice as painful when one gets you on the webbing between your fingers .

Lovely birds,especially the free range ones (no offence Jusdeb).First pair of birds my dad bought me and i still love Redrumps.Saw a lovely Mulga cock bird on my way to work last week.Stunning.

I always cringe a bit when see redrump mutations jusdeb,my dad bought me the normal ones (think i was 10) and they bred really well.He then purchased a yellow hen and a split cock.I think it was early 80`s and he paid $1200 for the pair.That was big money then and the hen lasted two days.I remember poo hitting the fan and dad spending a bit more time in the shed for a few weeks.He bounced back and bought Hooded parrots and they did really well in a large mixed finch aviary.Good an ya for getting the grand kids involved too,those memories last forever.

Thats bad luck about the hen passing , the fella I bought my conures from hit the jackpot when he invested in a pair of Red Rump mutations , made enough to establish some very rare conures and a few more Red Rumps before the price dropped .
Just shows you have to be lucky ...

I love watching the free rangers but Im a sucker for grey and white birds , apart from these 2 I have Platinum Whiteface Quarrions and a little Budgie that I dont know what to call except grey and white and kinda pied .

As for coloured birds I think mother nature did quite well with what she created .

Havnt Red Rump Mutations come along way? I remember when they were dads first Grass Parrot (normals).

I dont know how many mutations they can get from them now , cant be many ...people have made some big $$$$ from the new mutations but you have to be very quick and very lucky to have the right breeding pairs at the right time ..

Ive gotta feeling they have gone almost full circle and I dont think the good old $10 . 00 normal red rump is going to be that cheap for too much longer .

People are asking around about good normals in both the Red Rump and the Quarrions , wont be long before we see some really nice ( hopefully) normal Aussie natives on the market again.

Also got a feeling there will be wild caught birds thrown into the bloodlines especially the Quarrions .

Just my prediction , have been wrong before and may be wrong now .
