Can anyone give me advice on breeding black headed gouldians only.I seem to get nearly all red or yellow headed birds,With the rare black head.I want to purchase some new stock in black head and want to know what coloured beak a true black head has.As far as i understand a black headed hen is always black or split to yellow,And will have a yellow tipped beak if its split to yellow? And a black headed cock can be split to red or yellow. So i would assume it would have a yellow tip beak for yellow and a red for red head?Is this correct. Can someone point me in the right direction,As i may be loosing my mind.

Simple gomer, breed black head to black head and you can't get anything other than black head. The black head is sex linked recessive to red head and the yellow head requires at least a single red gene to express yellow. It doesn't matter what beak colour is as long as you mate black heads together.

Gomer, try contacting Graham Bull, I think his website is aussiefinchbreeder.
Have been told that he is breeding pure gouldians.
You may be able to get a couple of pair from him.

Thanks for the help all.Now I only need to work out how did i breed out the blacks in the first place.Maybe it was because i was trying to breed up the yellow heads.

This might help. Its an online gouldian genetic forecaster, but in this one it has a tipped beak colour section when you choose the colour of the head.
http://www.amadinagouldove.cz/gouldian- ... /index.php
According to the forecaster
BH hens can be
BH
BH split to Yellow
BH but genetically yellow which means the birds would have a yellow tipped beak. This would be due to yellow heads being recessive. The bird has the yellow genes required to make it a genetic yellow but not the red gene to make the yellow visible. Therefore it is BH with YTB
