Chick Colours
King Quail Chick Colours2.jpg
1. Cinnamon
2. Silver
3. Normal
4. SilverCinnamon? I'm not sure of this one.

This is 4 of 10 that one pair have, they hatched 8 and then I put the other 2 eggs in the incubator. Once the two in the incubator hatched, the pair and the 10 chicks were put in the brooder. I put the pair in the brooder last time when they hatch 9.

certainly looks different. I'm having a look now at a website that has pics of most of today's mutations. Hold on a tick...

OK I have a few pics (not gonna post them, not y pics) but here are the links.
The first is a Cinnamon Blue face (SF) http://zebrafinch.com/NewButtonquail/Bu ... eface1.JPG
and this is a cinnamon blue-face (DF) http://zebrafinch.com/NewButtonquail/Bu ... Double.JPG
I am very interested (as a collector of unusual King Quails) in seeing how this one matures - good luck!
Just on a final note, there is a peculiar bird at my work (i have named him "the goldenback"). He looks like a normal, with the colour of a cinnamon on top of his head, and a rich gold-ish back (with the usual sipne-like feather pattern). There is also a bird which appears silver, but with a cinnamon face pattern and mottling down the front.

What are the parents, something like a Normal split Silver & Cinnamon cockbird with a Cinnamon Split Silver hen?
I thought the young Cream/Ivory/Silver-Cinnamon (whatever you want to call them) chicks were much lighter than that (No.4).

When I produced a cream I paired a Silver Split Cinnamon cockbird with Cinnamon split Silver hen (my cinnamons were S-L)

howdy all

I just wanted to share my observations with kings mutations I seem to have produced.

I started out with 2 pairs of unrelated normals.
Both pairs bred and I got normals and silvers from 1 pair and normals and 2 cinimon males from the 2nd pair, looks to me like both of these mutations of mine are recessive. The cinnimons were not much different looking from the normal males but I did notice something.

Since then I have produced cinnimon hens and cocks from my 1st batch of cin males.

In the last batch, several generations later I see something that resembles a silver/cinnimon. Almost white and slightly fawn brown tinge. Looks like a hen.

We sold off most of my quail today and I hope my misses saved the right bird (SILVER/CIN) thinking it could be a combination of mutations.

My silvercinnamon chicks have also tended to be lighter than no 4. Mackstaa and Spanna pics please :shifty: Wish I had more room to play with my quail.

Interesting - unfortunately I don’t have any free space as I have kings & stubbs; will soon be getting BBBQ’s!
Would take quite a few Kings or Stubs to make a decent BBQ

Thanks spanna :D I don't think misses would b too happy me acquiring more quails. I find they launch up at night and hit the roof making all finches go crazy and fly into wire/cage at night.
Did you end up getting little buttons?

These ones are good and quiet! Eat from your hand when they have young and haven't caused any night frights that I'm aware of! trying to push them out the door now. Have some button quails headed my way thanks to a very helpful gent here on the forum, will make "official announcements" when they arrive in a couple of weeks hopefully...
