Just a general remark rather than a question. If a forum member starts a topic why use a single word like "where? " rather than for instance :"Where do we find Strigops habroptilus?" Would make it so much easier to cruise the forum if the topic is worded and articulated properly. Not so much of an issue now as the traffic is still very light. But as the forum grows and we start using the search engine a bit more it becomes an issue. just saomething to ponder. cheers case

Were a pretty casual bunch here , thats the beauty of this forum friendly and informative ..I do the one word thing myself, actually one of my last posts wasnt even a word just a pffft , but thats me ... I guess if it annoys others then I could put up a proper subject title.

From my side of things I believe that Case has raised a very valid point.
A little more thought into some of our subject lines wouldnt hurt any of us.
I would make an exception for the 'lounge' though, thats were anything goes pretty much

Hallo. I would have hoped - and thought - this issue would have received some more feedback and debate.
I know you are a casual bunch. After cruisin this forum for the last two weeks I realised that pretty early in the piece. Nothing wrong with that either.
But when you start a topic with Green ( not picking on anybody in particular) are we talking Green finches, Greenday the rockgroup, green with envy or .....?
When one visits the FAQ section there is a note or two on the search engine and why it might not work. The type of heading I am referring to comes under this catagory.
This forum has the potential to grow into a robust fountain of knowledge for many a finch fancier. Because of the English langue it is able to attract people from many English speaking countries in the word; and it already does.
If you thought that the bird fancy is dying around the world and that not enough people are taking up the hobby look at the figures of one of the more popular Dutch sites:
Webmaster of the site on figures requested by me today: These are the figures I have for the year 2010:
514.078 Visits (434.341 in 2009 +17,9%)
3.206.468 Page displays (2.788.722 in 2009 +13,9%)
204.874 unique visitors ( the visitor is only counted once a day) (164.668 in 2009)
www.aussiefinchforum.net has the capability to reach these kind of figures. With the English language base we have an enormous catchment area.
Some people would love to know that Aunt Daisy's finch has laid her first egg. I don't particularly want to know and the lounge seems a good place for that type of chat.
We can still stay a friendly bunch though! Cheers, Case

Yes yes yes and as one of the people that does make very casual subject titles I can see the logic in regards to searchs down the track HOWEVER I dont think you should be comparing us to your European Forums .
Totally different demographics .

The reason for the limited feedback and debate is your post was taken on board and is in general agreed upon. Aussies are a different bunch and are open to criticism, as you may be aware the forum has changed ownership recently and no decision is made without all being involved and yes we are planning behind the scenes and moving forward.(Be it at a slow pace, but we wish to do it right)casehulsebosch wrote:I would have hoped - and thought - this issue would have received some more feedback and debate.

Hallo Jusdeb. I did say that this forum has the potential, and it does. Totally different demographics ? How many Canadians and people from the Phillipines (like you have on this forum) do you think visit Dutch, German, French of Belgium sites daily you think? As a Rolling Stones fan I have this song buzzing around in my head: "Old habits die hard" and in reply to Buzzard1, I thought that bringing up this issue was al part of a healthy debate AND going forward.
cheers Case.
