Hi All,

This year I have given my birds the stress style next box as used by Mike Fidler...the boxes have the entry at one end (lower end) with a sloping roof and are higher at the back...my birds appear to be heasitant to use these boxes....I will give them some additional (standard) boxes on the weekend (same height at either end with entry hole via side of the box), but I would like to know if anyone else has used (is using) the stress style nest boxes and what are their thoughts....I feel the lower height at the entry and the entry being at the front is detering some of my birds from using these boxes...your thoughts would be appreciated...regards, Paul

I have 2 box and 1 Fidler in the outside section of the aviary, 2 Filder and 1 box on the inside, (3 pairs) they have all chosen one of the outside boxes but the "normal" sort got selected before the Fidler one.

My Fathers Birds used all types just the same with no preference.

Trialed this for 3 seasons. Not convinced.
(Aviaries were 9' x 4' x 8' High and 9' x 8' x 8' High and housed 3-5 Pairs)...........5prs is too overstocked.

He has just completely reverted to normal box as they were only $3.50 vs $12.50

Price Wins.

I use 10 Mike Fidler type boxes, 4 normal budgie boxes and 1 cylinder with 3 nests in it. So far, they have only chosen the Mike Fidler type and the cylinder. I have a yellowback playing around in one of the budgie boxes but no eggs yet. To be honest, I don't think it matters. I spoke to a breeder recently who has been using budgie boxes for the last 20 years. He uses nothing else and has had great success. My advice - save your money. They appear to make do with whatever you give them. One thing I will say, don't use the taller type box, similar in height to a Lovebird box. There is a dealer in Adelaide selling these under the label "Gouldian Breeding Box" and the birds won't go near them. I think they really do prefer a short front on the box.

I also use The Fidler type boxes as well as budgie type which has a drop down shelf on the inside and have good success in both. I suppose its up to the individual pairs what they prefer so providing both and sometimes three designs (boxes with side porch) have given me good results. just ensure that they are not all located beside each other to give breeding pairs their own space.

Interesting you mention about the space thing...Mine don't seem to mind having the boxes a few inches away from each other. Then again, I do have around 2.5 boxes per pair for them to chose from so they create their own space when choosing a box.
