flamin gouldians. moved a past breeding pair of normal RH gouldians (male split black head) into my holding aviary and this morning couldn't see the hen. went and had a look around, dreading to find her on the floor. i did. under a log. ON. FIVE. EGGS. :wtf:

bloody things have piled together a few eucalypt leaves and some quail feathers and started nesting. for shear determination, i'm gonna let them keep the nest lol. but if they hatch, which i find unlikely, i'll pull them out and put them in a nest box or something... dunno, still laughing at it all!!

Birds are amazing aren't they. Sometimes I wonder if they are just playing with us?? We want them to breed so they don't, we don't want them to breed so they'll do whatever it takes to do so.

Good luck, hope something comes of it. Will give you a story to tell for as long as your memory serves you right.

Mine just did the same thing. We moved recently, so I had 3 pr of blackheads in a holding aviary with no nest boxes. One hen was so keen to nest, she laid behind a small piece of brush on the floor intended for the quail. All pairs are now in their new aviary 2 weeks later and have 5 eggs in every box!
