What could I possibly have?

I mentioned on another post that in a nest of 3 Gouldians, there is one that is definitely a different colour. Not the same typical black colour that babies are in the nest but definitely a very light/white colouring. The parents are both visual normals. So going through all the combinations, the only thing I can come up with is that both parents are split for Aus Yellow, being an autosomal recessive mutation. If it was a Euro Yellow or Pastel then at least the father should be a single factor. Is that correct?

Can anyone think of other possibilities?

Can't be Euro yellow (yellow back) without at least one parent being one. Pastel / dilute is recessive (do not confuse single factor yellow back for pastel or dilute that is a separate mutation) but I don't know that they have a lighter body colour. Have to wait patiently and see I guess .

About 6 weeks after fledging pull out a couple of feathers and see what colour grows if you need to.

I'm led to believe that Pastel = Euro Yellow and Dilute is a separate mutation. Pastel is sex-linked, dilute is autosomal recessive. So I think I can count out Pastel then as the father is not Pastel.

There is pictures of mutation young in the nest on this site. Might help in identifying the lighter youngster.

Dont think it will solve the Aus yellow question though as its an American site.

Thanks Diane. I'll have to study that site a bit to get some clues. Time will tell I guess.

If you check the nodules beside the beak, Aus yellow will have vivid white instead of the normal blue. I have one about 4 days old at the moment and the colour difference is obvious.
