i dont really get it why would finches eat greenery i thought they only eat bird seed and other stuff relating to
that

I dont mean this nastily,its just the best way I know how to say it.
what do you think that the birds get to eat the most of in the wild?
there is so much competition for seeds that they very rarely eat ripe seeds.
most of the seed consumed by wild birds is still green (unripened). green seed is actually better for our birds than dry, the nutrient levels are much better. supplying green seed to caged birds can also help to start their breeding cycle, in the wild it is at that time of year when they start to breed. when food is at its most abundant. the birds in the wild also eat a lot of fresh plants.
