Hi silverfox, our local Ag Dept (Barron-Hay Court Sth Perth) will identify them for you for free as it sounds like different strategies for different species. All you have to do is send about 10 on a piece of paper with sticky tape to hold them in place with your name, address etc and where you have collected them from eg kitchen bench, base of tree, or wherever and they will let you know. I was looking up Argentine ants last night and discovered this. Pretty sure what we've got this year isn't them but might send a few off and find out what they are.

Has anyone tried Ant Rid?, I haven't used it near my cages yet, last week i put some of the liquid on a sugar cube in my shed it attracted thousands of ants, yesterday there were only a few, the ants take the poison back to the nest and it kills the queen, it is working in my shed, it contains Borax will this harm birds if they eat the ants?

Hi shirltra96. I have been using antrid along with other things but they seem to be thriving on it. I don't know if they build up an immunity to it or not. I've just redone my aviary with a stronger solution of coopex and it seems to have them at bay at the moment. I think I'll send a few off too and see if I can get some help that way.

I thought they may have changed the ingredients in Antrid , it used to work but lately doesnt seem to have any effect on the ants .

Try this, it works on small black ants,

RECEIPE FOR THE CONTROL OF ANTS
2 cups of SUGAR
1 cup of water
2 tablespoons of BOREX
BOIL for 3 minutes (let cool)
Put small amounts (dessert spoon) on plastic lids or simular
store any excess in screw top jars
Place in the path of the ants
Cover when placed inside the aviary area

Dispose of the containers when the ants disappear
