Just wondering what methods people use to attach nest boxes (for Gouldians) when the covered area is steel sheet without any netting to attach the box to. I wasn’t intending to put up shelves.

Regards

I have shelves , it makes it easy to check nestboxes . The few cane woven nests I have are fixed with wire to the support ( metal part of framework that juts out )

Whatever you do dont use pop rivetts , friend of mine lost 6 young when a nest box came away form the wall . recently.

I've got shelves which are screwed to standard shelf brackets bolted to the walls.

You can buy flat doubled over metal strips one is riveted to wall and one screwed to nest box. They hook over each other. I make my own but I don't think they are dear. If you want I can post a pic, let me know.

I screwed peices of 25x25mm mesh to the inside of the sheets and hang the boxes on this using picture hooks. Easy to check boxes and no poo build up on shelves. You could fix some timber strips to the sheets first then fix the mesh to that so your hooks have clearance to make it even easier.

Just like Buzzard I use the folded sheet metal brackets. Works really well.

Thanks for the advice - I’m going with the folded gal sheet. I bought some boxes, sight unseen and am surprised at how small they are. They were sold to me as suitable for Gouldians and TCPF but …

The smaller boxes would be fine for the tri-colours as they have quite a small nest chamber, the gouldians will need a decent size box though.

I too use the folded sheet metal or I also have some keyhole connectors which work equally well.
