They can handle colder than that Brett , what they can not handle is draughts .
Wind proof as much as possible without losing too much sun and if your really worried a heater can be made so they can perch next to a heat source to keep warm .
Heating is debatable though and (aviary)birds bought from local breeders should be used to the climate there and not need too much fussing over .

Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.

They can handle temps down to minus 6 here , just keep out the wind and let in the sun.

I use perspex sheets which are removable. The avairy is enclosed, faces north and the morning sun warms them up great through the perspex. As many have stated the real problem is draughts.

I just put a set of my own home made PVC blinds up on my Aviary. Bunnings sell the PVC for about $8 a metre and I used 20mm round dowel Tassie Oak took me about half a day they roll up by hand and have tie offs and they are easily removed. Only thing is invest in a industrial stapler the air operated ones work a treat but you need a air compressor the other option is a Rapid electric stapler but they can be expensive. If you go down that path of doing it yourself I will kindly help out with pics and ideas.
